VOCAL SKILLS AND THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
Drawing on the philosophical and practical premises of Alexander Technique, students will learn the basic skills that Alexander uses to work on posture, and therefore on voice and movement. The basic understanding reached during this course will allow any person to set out on the optimal path to proper vocal and singing techniques, regardless of their experience or which genre of acting or music.
OPEN TO BOTH ACTORS AND SINGERS.
Our Musical Theatre course serves as an introduction to the particular mix of physical and technical focus on vocal training. The aim of this course is to provide tools that will develop the individual artist, and special attention will be given to each student. Though short, the techniques learned here are designed to instill a deeper grounding and more profound understanding upon which to base a personal vocal practice. Participation should be the springboard for the development of a whole new, successful approach to vocal technique.
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE: PERFORMANCE
Applying Alexander Technique to ourselves and our acting choices. Drawing on the philosophical and practical premises of Alexander Technique, we will explore the diverse ways we all ‘think’ and ‘feel’ about the body, and how these sub-consciously inform our practice of Acting.
Exploring the two most prominent principles of Alexander, Inhibition and Giving Directions, we will investigate their application to psycho-physical characterisation. Inhibition, or ‘saying no’ to the habitual movement pattern, is the premise for changing posture. A moment of space allows new, innate ‘direction/intentions’ to over-ride the subconscious ways in which we move and react to stimuli! Within this space, a sense of ‘self’ resides – rooted in kinaesthetic awareness.
